MINIMAL-PAIR LISTENING PRACTICE

Less time making cards.
More time hearing the difference.

If you want to practice minimal pairs without building an Anki deck, start here. Pick a sound, press play, and get feedback.

Ship or sheep?
Hear more than the spelling.

A minimal pair changes one sound: ship /ʃɪp/ and sheep /ʃip/, for example.

The challenge takes that a step further. Hear two reference words, then a different word in another voice. Decide which reference shares the sound in the new word.

Press play on A, B and X. Match the target vowel. You can listen again before choosing.

Two examples. One new word.

Does X share A’s sound or B’s?

Listen for the target sound. Match its sound, not the whole word.

Keep Anki for your own cards

If you enjoy choosing examples, creating cards and managing your deck, a personal flashcard collection gives you that control.

Use MinimalPairs to start listening

The sound groups and recordings are already organized. Choose a lesson or take the diagnostic to find a starting point.

Combine them

Practice a sound difference here, then continue learning vocabulary in the system you already use. You don’t need to move your existing deck.

A clear next step after each session.

During practice, hear feedback after answering and continue with new examples. Use sound matching to focus on listening, or word identification to connect sounds and spelling.

The diagnostic gives you a snapshot of the contrasts you matched. Premium adds the detailed report and full lesson library so you can work on what you missed.

$29 once. Or $7/month.

Premium covers all current practice languages. Start with the free listening check and lessons.
